WH-Series Conveyor Chain for Bulk Handling

A WH-Series conveyor chain is a welded steel chain designed for conveying systems where wear, dust and high mechanical loads are important factors. VAV supplies WH conveyor chains for applications including bulk handling, grain processing, animal feed and raw materials. Available chain types, attachments and configurations are selected to suit your conveyor and the material being handled. VAV has the following series in its product range: WH78, WH82, WH106, WH110, WH111, WH124, WH124H, WH132, WH150, WH155, WH157.

What is a WH-Series conveyor chain?

A WH-Series conveyor chain is a welded steel conveyor chain with offset sidebars. Common English terms include WH-Series welded steel conveyor chain, welded steel mill chain, WH chain, welded steel chain and offset sidebar chain.

The WH-Series is characterised by its robust welded construction. WH chains use heat-treated chain components and pins to increase resistance to wear, impact and shock loads. This makes this type of conveyor chain suitable for conveyors handling abrasive bulk materials.

Depending on the chain type, attachments can be fitted to the chain. This allows the conveyor chain to be adapted to the conveyor design and the material being transported.

WH-Series conveyor chain specifications

WH-Series chains are available in various sizes and configurations. The specifications below must be matched to the exact chain type and existing conveyor installation.

Which WH-Series conveyor chain should you choose?

The correct configuration depends on the conveyor design, load and bulk material. The chain number alone is therefore not always sufficient for selecting the correct chain.

For abrasive bulk materials
When handling materials that cause increased wear, the wear resistance of the pins, bushings and sidebars is important. The appropriate WH configuration depends on factors including the material, conveying speed, capacity and operating hours.

For trough and drag conveyors
For horizontal or inclined bulk conveying, the WH chain can be equipped with attachments. The shape, spacing and dimensions of these attachments must suit the conveyor trough, bulk material and required capacity.

For heavy-duty or shock-loaded applications
For varying loads, large material particles or shock loads, factors such as chain size, working load, sprockets and heat treatment must be matched to the application.

When replacing an existing chain
Do not check the pitch alone. The inside width, sidebars, pin diameter, attachments and sprockets must also correspond with the existing system. Sprocket wear can also affect the service life of a new conveyor chain.

VAV can help determine the correct configuration based on your existing chain, technical drawing or chain dimensions.
